Painting & Illustrating

My paintings are shown in Stamford at Gallery Stamford.

Painting is a relatively new venture in my life, one which I have always held a secret passion for but never had the time. Now my journey has begun and I am enjoying discovering my creative side again through paint.

I work mainly in oils and acrylics. The fast drying nature of acrylics satisfies my spontaneous side and I can work quickly and intuitively. Using this medium to explore the emotion of colour, my work tends to be more abstract.

Working in oils is very satisfying  and I love the buttery textures and colour mixing from a limited palette. I use oils for a more traditional style of painting, gaining inspiration from the masters like John Singer Sargent, Vincent Van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, to more contemporary artists such as Frank Auerbach, Peter Doig and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

This year I will be trying watercolour, a medium I haven't touched for a very long time. I am looking forward to its unpredictability and fluidity. Watch this space...
